bio: Ryan is an LA based Photographer and Director of Photography. Born in Iowa and raised in Illinois, his early photographic inspiration stemmed from a fascination with imagery and storytelling. His first studies in lighting and image came from making home movies, where he learned to experiment with lighting to establish mood and evoke emotion. He further developed his creative eye studying film, video, and photography at Columbia College Chicago, receiving his BA in those studies.
Since relocating to Los Angeles in 2010, he’s been employed by several creative agencies and film studios such as Imaginary Forces, Innocean USA, and Conscious Minds.
Most recently, Ryan’s travel photography and writing has been published by the travel publication Suitcase Magazine, which can be viewed here.
Ryan’s work has been published in print and on the web, as well as in Hollywood productions and on major television networks. These productions have sent him internationally to places such as South Africa, Ireland, India, Singapore, and Canada.
